Hello again,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Holy Week and Easter celebrations. We finally are starting to get some Spring-like weather to help us remember how everything is renewed this time of year, both in our hearts and our surroundings. As we enjoy this time of year, we face the increased activity of our school calendar. Pay close attention, study this month's calendar. If you blink, you might miss something. Here are the latest batch of announcements:
Scholarships: We are in the process of creating a scholarship program that invites non-parishioners into our school environment. I feel that we have a tool for evangelization (the school) and we have the means to reach out to others. Please spread the word to family and friends that we are looking to sponsor 1 student per grade level in our initial effort. This program exists alongside of our already existing efforts to help our parish families meet the educational need of their children. Personally, I would love to have a few more girls for our 5th grade class next year (right now we have 2... a good 2, but we could have more). If you know a family that you think might be interested, talk to them and come talk to me. This is yet another way to strengthen our school and share God's love.
GOLF-A-THON: I will be representing our school in a Diocesan golf outing on May 19, 2000. All pledges collected will be split 50/50 with the Diocese. While I am not the best golfer on the planet, I am more than willing to "suffer" through a day of golf to help our school. You can pledge by the hole or one amount for the day. I recommend you don't pledge by the amount of golf balls lost. A pledge form will be sent home next week. Thanks for your support.
Dress Code: Yes, it is getting warmer. Yes, students can start wearing shorts (except on Mass days). Yes, students need to wear socks in accordance with the state health code. No, capri pants are not allowed and neither are shorts that don't reach the knees. Yes, I think that clears up recent dress code concerns.
The Diary of Anne Frank: The drama club dinner theater production is scheduled for May 6, 2000 at 6:00. Tickets are $15.00 each or 2 for $25.00. Please come join us and enjoy the efforts of our hard-working Drama Club. The play will also be performed on Friday, May 5, 2000 at 12:30 during the school day.
Family Fun Night: The Booster Club invites everyone to a night of fun here at St. Francis Xavier in the school gym. More details to come, but please set aside this date to come and enjoy the evening with us.
Mid-Terms: Fourth quarter mid-terms will be sent home on Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Please sign and return by Friday, May 5, 2000.
Operations (Scrip) Fee: Families need to have the final payment of their operations fee in by May 12, 2000. This includes any outstanding balances. Scrip purchases will be applied toward next year after May 15, 2000.
Registration: Please turn in registration materials to the office. This is the time of year when we begin to order textbooks and other supplies for the upcoming school year. It is important that we have a good idea of how many students will be in each grade to order properly.
Petition: We sent home a petition regarding the possible banning of religious programming. While the intent of this petition was good, the need for it is false. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken great steps to educate the public on their belief in our First Amendment right to free expression. No such proposal exists. Please disregard the petition and I apologize for any confusion. Please educate others if they bring this rumor to your attention, as we are not the first parish to be misled.
Catholic Central Sports Camps: We have information about summer sports camps being run by Catholic Central (Baseball, Cheerleading, Softball). Please contact the office if interested.
Summer School Programs: Please contact the office if you are interested in summertime activities and classes for your child. Holy Spirit's Prescription Summer Camp offers organizational skills classes as well as other subjects to help support student needs.
Are we done? I think so. Thanks for your patience!!
Thanks and God Bless,
Mr. Priest
